BreachAlarm was contacted this week by a hacker going by the handle ‘Desert Bandit’, who shared some breach data with us. If you’re an Email Watchdog user, you may have been notified of this breach. We thought our customers might be interested in a hacker’s perspective, and we were delighted when Desert Bandit agreed to answer some questions here on the blog.

BA: Please paint a picture of yourself for our audience. What’s your age, gender, location?

DB: I’m just the regular neighborhood kid, I’m under 18, I’m male and I’m from Europe.

Just Hacked: MuscularStrength.com

Eyebrows were raised here at BreachAlarm when we imported a new database breach from MuscularStrength.com, a site devoted to bodybuilding and strength training, run by athlete Scott Herman.

Released by hacker Sinister, the leaked file packed 54,096 stolen records, including usernames, email addresses, hashed passwords, full street addresses (as well as city, state, zip and country), payment methods and phone numbers.

Anthem Breach: Even Non-Customers Affected

You don’t have to be an Anthem Insurance customer to have heard about their recent hack. Now, new revelations show that you don’t even have to be registered with Anthem to be affected.

The company’s own analysis indicates that about 78.8 million people could have been compromised in the February 4th attack. This number relates to the amount of people whose data could have been viewed by cyber-intruders, but not necessarily stolen.
